The Priority of Jesus
"My food", said Jesus , "is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish His work." John 4:34
As a backgrounder to this verse that Jesus himself said ... In John 4: 4-9 , He just came to a Samaritan village of Sychar where Jocob's well was located. Jesus was tired from a long walk and sat beside the well at about noontime. A Samaritan woman came to draw water and Jesus asked for a drink. The woman was surprised because Jews refused to have anything to do with Samaritans. In the course of their conversation , the Samaritan woman said to Jesus , "You are a Jew and I'm a Samaritan woman. Why are you asking me for a drink?" Jesus replied , "If you only knew the gift God has for you and who I am , you would ask me, and I would give you living water."
There are some important things I want to point out here : First , That Jesus , despite being tired , hungry and thirsty , always took to heart His priority , and that is - saving souls... reaching out to the lost. Second , that Jesus showed no favoritism in what kind of people to deal with. He cared for all people, no matter what race or worst of a sinner they could ever be. Jesus saved the Samaritan woman and set her free from her adulterous life. The "living water" that He was offering as a gift to the woman is the Holy Spirit who is the only source of true peace , joy and rest that the woman has been searching all her life.
Likewise , when it comes to evangelism , we should be dedicated, persistent and faithful. In the world that is full of many distractions , we should remain focused on our priority of bringing salvation to the lost. Yes , we have our own material needs to attend to. We have our own dreams to fulfill. But if we follow the example that Jesus set before us , seeking first the will of the Father , then everything that we have ever dreamed or hoped for will be fulfilled.
In the past, we might have set our focused on worrying too much about our own personal needs. We might have been sidetracked , channeling all our efforts and resources in winning the elections. We might have become so busy attending to our businesses , jobs or matters of the world. In so doing , we have set aside our heart for winning souls.
He promised in Matthew 6:33 , "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness , and all these things will be given to you as well." We do not have to worry about what to wear or what to eat or how to send our kids to school or how to prosper our businesses or how to be victorious in our endeavors. God will supply all our needs according to His riches in glory. He will give us victory in all the things that we do. We just have to set our priorities right.
Our job is not to worry. Our job is to serve God! If our priority is to be saved and to save , the Lord will bless us. And if we give our support to the propagation of the Gospel of salvation to the whole world , the Lord will not forget. He will bless us as well...
